Clara Verlinder Hoffelmeyer

Clara V. (Bowland) Hoffelmeyer, 91, St. Joseph, joined the Lord, Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Shepherds House, surrounded by her loving family.Clara V. was born on June 15, 1924 in Savannah, Missouri; to the late Woodford and Clara (Martin) Bowland. She was a graduate of Savannah High School and attended Gard Business College.After finishing school, Clara V. worked in secretarial positions for various companies, until she married and then became a homemaker, devoted wife and loving mother.Mrs. Hoffelmeyer started the Friendship-Seven 4-H Club in 1963, which she continued to lead for many years. She was a former member of the Amazonia United Methodist Church. Clara V. loved bird watching, flowers, collecting antiques, family get togethers and Bowland reunions.Clara V. married Garold Hoffelmeyer on August 10, 1947, they celebrated 66 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on June 25, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen Hoffelmeyer; and two brothers, Leroy Bowland (Madlyn) and Norman Bowland (Betty).Mrs. Hoffelmeyer is survived by two daughters, Roberta Polley (Charles), Platte City, MO and Patricia Devine (Donald), St. Joseph, MO; her granddaughter, Kenzie Polley and numerous nieces and nephews.Services 1:00 PM Tuesday in Savannah at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel, 307 South 6th Street. Interment Savannah Cemetery. Visitation will be open to the public after 12:00 PM Monday at our chapel, where the family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday.Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
