Clarence H. “Turtle” Fuoss, 83, of Scottdale, formerly of Owensdale, passed into everlasting life with his Savior Jesus at 2:35 PM Friday, September 8, 2023 in Hempfield Manor, Hempfield Township. Turtle was born April 16, 1940 in Owensdale, Upper Tyrone Township, a son of the late Elmer and Alice (Colbert) Fuoss, who passed away on June 16, 1969 and June 14, 2010 respectively. He married Janet R. (Jacquillard) Fuoss on February 9, 1963.
Turtle was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was retired from Teledyne Summerill in Scottdale where he was employed as a furnace operator. Turtle was a faithful member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Connellsville. He was a very proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a specialist 4th Class during the Vietnam era.
Turtle was referred to by Owensdale folks as the “Mayor of Owensdale,” where he would often be seen making multiple daily trips to the scrap yard and saw mill. He enjoyed taking mountain drives, especially during the fall season, supporting and attending his grandsons’ activities, listening to gospel music, and attending stock car races at which he was a pit crew member for many years.
Turtle will be sadly missed by his loving family, in whom he took great pride; his wife of 60 years, Janet R. (Jacquillard) Fuoss; his two daughters, W. Diane Huff and husband Scott and Leslie Younkin and husband Cyrus; his three grandchildren, Dr. Nicholas Huff, Simon Huff (Christina), and Joshua Younkin; his three great grandchildren, Juniper, Elowyn, and Jorah Huff; his brothers, Glen Fuoss and Duaine Fuoss (Carol); his sisters, Mary Hawk and Loraine Warrick; his sisters-in-law, Janet Fuoss and Brenda Fuoss; his brothers-in-law Jerry Jacquillard (Claudia) and James Jacquillard (Judy); numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Lee Younkin (2/29/2000); his brothers, Melvin, Francis, and Elmer Fuoss; and his sister, Leona Weiss.
The family extends sincere appreciation to Dr. Paul Means and Amedisys Hospice staff, Caring Missions staff, and Hempfield Manor staff for the loving care they showed to Turtle and his family. Sincere appreciation is also extended to Pastor Matt Goldsberry and Hospice Chaplain Brian Swan for providing spiritual support to Turtle and his family.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET, SCOTTDALE (http://www.fergusonfunerals.com).
Private visitation, viewing, and a funeral service was held at the convenience of the family with Pastors Matt Goldsberry and Brian Swan co-officiating. Graveside committal service and interment with full military honors, bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard, followed in Scottdale Cemetery. Love Lasts Forever!
