Clarice Mae Hemkin

Clarice Mae Hemkin 81, of Brainerd, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday, September 5, 2011 at Essentia Health St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. She was born September 14, 1929 in Staples to Wilbert & Martha (Peterson) Bruggman. She was married to Dale Hemkin for almost 61 years.Clarice loved life and all the journeys it took her on. She & Dale traveled extensively throughout the states and provinces and also took several family cruises & vacations, including to her ancestral home in Norway. Her summers were spent enjoying the cabin and winters snowmobiling throughout Minnesota. Clarice also had a lifelong love of music and played baritone with the Trinity brass.She is survived by husband, Dale; children, Susan (Mark) Kavanaugh of East Gull Lake, MN, Sheryl (Arturo Obscura) Hemkin of Howard, OH; brother, William Bruggman; grandchildren, Kassi & Luke Kavanaugh.Clarice was preceded in death by her parents and sister Marilyn Sims.Funeral services for Clarice will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday September 8, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Holte officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 7 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home and 1 hour prior at the church on Thursday.
