Claudette Coleman Smith, daughter of the late Robert Allen and Bernice Jett Coleman Sr, began this life December 3, 1952, in Washington, D.C. She entered her eternal rest December 13, 2024, in Woodbridge, VA. She was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Palmer.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior and was baptized at an early age at Beulah Baptist Church in Woodford, VA.
She grew up in Woodford, VA and graduated from Caroline High School in 1971. After graduation, she built her own home in Caroline County where she raised her three children and enjoyed her 14 grand and great-grandchildren, known as her Angels.
After starting as a tailor at Washington Woolen Mills in Fredericksburg, VA and providing alteration services for several local stores, she worked the rest of her life in her gifting. As a seamstress, she started her own business, C&C Designs, where she designed and altered every type of formal gown imaginable, often without a pattern, until 2017.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Welcome Chapter #129 (Past Worthy Matron) Bowling Green, VA. She served as an usher at Emmanuel AME Church in Fredericksburg, VA until she was no longer able.
No one could deny Claudette was generous and hardworking and had an independent spirit. This independence she instilled in each of her children and grandchildren. She never turned down a friend in need and was always up for an adventure. One of her expressions was “If you have the G, I have the O”.
Claudette leaves to remember her three loving children Georgette Patterson, George Smith Jr., and Catina Norman; her fourteen angels, grandchildren, Keiasha Shepherd, Ashley Patterson, Charity Smith, Kelsey Smith, McKenna Smith, Amber Patterson, Jada Smith, Avery Smith, Kirstin Smith and Araya Patterson, and great grandchildren, Avery Smith, Nasir Tyler, Nala Tyler and Mylo Moore; two devoted sons-in-law, Henry Patterson and Christopher Norman; brother, Robert Coleman Jr.; sister, Carolyn Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
