Clyde Eugene “Gene” Bennett, 91, of Henrietta, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Henrietta with Pastor Randy Osborn officiating. Interment will follow at Hope Cemetery under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Henrietta.
Gene was born on August 10, 1934, to the late Claude Eugene and Winnie Cleo (Walls) Bennett in Frederick, Oklahoma, where he attended school and graduated. He later moved to the Wichita Falls area, where he met the love of his life, Peggy Joyce Seigler. The couple married on June 17, 1961, and were members of First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls. Gene worked at MSU and many local printing businesses before retiring in August 2009. Gene and Peggy spent many wonderful years together before her passing in 2015.
Gene had a passion for softball. It all began in 1954 when he started playing fast-pitch softball, which he continued for the next 16 years. In 1970, he began umpiring baseball and softball and did so for 31 years. He was a member of the Sunrise Optimist Club and USA Softball and served as the District 9 Deputy Commissioner. His love for softball earned him high recognition as an inductee into the ASA Umpire Hall of Honor in 1990. Gene’s other—and greatest—love was his family, especially being “Papa Gene” to his grandchildren. This amazing man will be missed by many family members and friends.
Along with his wife and parents, Gene was preceded in death by six brothers, Cecil, Wayne, Marion, Donald, Terry, and Jerry; and three sisters, Laura Mae, Carol Sue, and Nancy.
Gene is survived by two sons, Ronald Bennett and Paul Bennett and wife, Kendra; three grandchildren, Kandon Bennett, Landry Bennett, and Kolt Bennett; one brother, Keith Bennett and wife, Sherri; and numerousother beloved family members.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.owensandbrumley.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Sunrise Optimist Club of Wichita Falls and Hospice of Wichita Falls.
