Clyde Horton Jr, age 83, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026. Born on February 19, 1942, to the late Clyde Sr and Carrie Bell Horton in West, Mississippi. Clyde was the epitome of hard work and dedication.
Clyde is a 1961 graduate of Tolleston High School in Gary, IN. Upon graduation, Clyde enlisted in the US Air Force, November 1, 1961 and was honorably discharged October 29,1965, as an Airman 1st Class.
As a skilled crane operator, Clyde spent 33 years working at Inland Steel in East Chicago, IN where he retired in 2001. Beyond his work at Inland Steel, Clyde was an entrepreneur with his best friend & business partner, Neil Birdsong, owning B & H Audio & Library Lounge on Broadway in Gary & H & B Enterprise preparing taxes.
Clyde was an avid football fan, often cheering for the Chicago Bears. He enjoyed racing and working on cars in his younger years and was also a Cadillac enthusiast, owning several Cadillacs over his lifetime.
Clyde’s legacy is one of mentoring, resilience and love. Those that knew Clyde called him cool and laid back, he didn’t let too many things get to him. You would always catch him in a pair of sunglasses, plaid shirt & sporting a black cap.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde Sr. and Carrie Bell Horton, sister, Hazel Bryant.
Clyde was a loving father to Angela Horton, Kwiniece McKinley, Clyde Horton III, Louis Horton, bonus daughter, Ingrid (Melvin) Bullard Jr. and a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister, Emma Evans, close companion, Irene Stringer and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
