Prayers, hugs to his family, especially Kim. Very sad. He will be missed by many.

My dear cousin- Remembering the things we did together as kids brings a smile to my face. Camping trips, time at Grandma's house, holiday get-togethers. Forever loved, never forgotten!

Even though I didn’t know him really well I know that he was a wonderful person. He helped me a few times in the winter plowing my driveway when there was too much for my blower to handle. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace

So sorry for the passing of Corey he was a good worker and friend at the Times before I retired

Many great memories of Corey. He had a lot of good friends growing up on the north side. Corey was always up for playing any sport or cards when we were younger you could always count him in. Enjoyed seeing him in recent years at the Brookside Diner and talking sports. Thank you for taking me to my first Yankees game at the stadium. Can’t believe that was ten years ago. My condolences to your family and all of your friends. Going to miss you buddy

Corey was a wonderful person! He will be missed. He was always there when I needed him and plowed my driveway all the time. He was great to Kim and Harley their dog. Love and prayers to the family

Obituary

Corey's Obituary

Corey Dean Covell, 53 of Watertown, was born May 16, 1972 in Gouverneur, NY to Linda Wood Thomas and Ronald Dean Covell. He was a member of the class of 1990 at Watertown High school.

Corey began his career at the Watertown Daily Times June 15, 1990 as part time pressroom help. He then became a pressroom apprentice and worked his way to journeyman. He was currently the plant manager and was responsible for all printing operations. Corey trained pressmen and built a great team. He was respected by all of his employees and coworkers throughout the newspaper. Corey was the guy who could fix anything and went out of his way to help other departments. His eye for quality printing helped not only the Times, but also the commercial printing customers of the newspaper. Corey’s work was seen in newspapers throughout the state. The quality printing also contributed several Times to photographers and reporters winning statewide awards for their print work. His nearly 35 years at the Times showed his commitment and dedication to the things he loved. Corey was also a skilled carpenter and enjoyed woodworking.

Corey was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and ice fishing. He spent a lot of time in his beautiful garden with his longtime partner, Kimberly Castagnier. Corey cultivated not only plants and vegetables in his garden but the love of sports everywhere he went. Corey played alongside his father and brother Ron in the ASA Watertown Men’s Softball League from 2000-2015, winning several championships for Mick’s Place as a pitcher and the league’s most valuable player. Corey was a fan of the Eagles, go birds!

Corey was also a dedicated Yankees fan and enjoyed traveling to Florida with Kim to attend Yankee Spring Training every year. He was a true collector of baseball cards and all things Yankee memorabilia. Corey looked forward to displaying his cards and collectables at card shows around New York State. He had the privilege of traveling to the National Sports Collectors Convention across the USA to sell, display, and expand his collection. Corey was proud to have donated an original photo of Babe Ruth and personally gave the photo to Mr. Ruth’s daughter to be displayed at the Babe Ruth Museum in Baltimore, MD.

Most importantly, Corey had embraced his chapter of being a grandfather to his only granddaughter, Oaklyn, lovingly called, “Little Bobble Head.” He was a changed man after her birth and loved spending time with her.

Among his survivors are his loving significant other, Kimberly Castagnier of Watertown; his only son, Gregory (from marriage to Amy Wedgewood-Rich) and Kaitlin Leavitt Covell and their daughter Oaklyn Covell of Cape Vincent; his mother Linda Wood Thomas and step-father Theodore Thomas of Watertown; brother Dana and sister in law Adrean Tiffany Thomas of Watertown; sister Candy and Jim Shaw of Depauville; brother Ronald and Nichole Covell of Watertown; sister Jessie and Jeffrey Peebles of Lowville; his nieces and nephews Kaydan, Aston, Sadie, Garryson, Ciara, Christian, and Madison; his step-mother Susan Covell of Carthage.

Corey is predeceased by his father Ronald Dean Covell of Carthage; grandmother Alice Wood; grandparents Gerald and Elizabeth Wood; grandparents Mary Covell and Glenn Norfolk.
