Not sure what to say?

I was privileged to know Ed for many years and we shared a love for the good and gracious people of Florala. May his family and friends be comforted and may he rest assuredly in the arms of the Christ he served.

Spencer Turnipseed
Retired Elder
Alabama West Florida Conference

Dear Britton family, please know you’re in our prayers. Our parents, the late Ed & Betty Sells loved your Dad and Mom very much. Heaven is surely having a revival! God bless y’all during this tender time.

Curtis Edward's Obituary

Reverend Curtis Edward Britton was born on April 11, 1939, to Curtis Albert Britton and Frances Elizabeth Hearn Britton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jane Elizabeth Britton Harp; his great-grandson, Cole Randolph Taylor; and his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty Sue Maraman Britton.

He is survived by his three children: Meloney Wolfe and her husband David, Mark Allen Britton Sr. and his wife RaMona, and Michelle Randolph and her husband Rick. He is also survived by his nephew, Mike Harp, and wife Shana, who has always been like another son.

Ed loved and was deeply loved by his grandchildren: Amanda Rutherford (Jeremy), Forest Grubbs, Kristin Grubbs, Mark Allen Britton Jr., Chase Grubbs (Kendra Anderson), Mary Sloan Britton-Thrift (Noah), Matthew Britton (Kelsey), Alexandria Randolph, Paige Randolph, Brandon Harp, Elizabeth Harp, and Ryan Smith (April). His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Aden and Weston Rutherford, Leyton and Lennox Grubbs, and Callum Britton, and Indigo Taylor.

Throughout the years, Ed was cherished by many extended family members, friends, and acquaintances.

Ed’s life in ministry began at just 16 years old when he was licensed to preach. He graduated from Huntingdon College and later from the seminary at Emory University. In 1958, he was ordained as a minister and faithfully served in the Alabama-West Florida Conference. His ministry spanned decades, during which he pastored 18 churches while in active ministry and four churches in retirement. His final sermon was preached on October 27, 2024.

He embodied the very definition of a man of God—faithful, steadfast, and committed to living a life pleasing to the Lord.

Ed passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2025, at Santa Rosa Hospital, surrounded by his son Mark, his daughter Michelle, and his son-in-law Rick. His daughter Meloney had lovingly cared for him at home as long as possible, but due to his declining health since November 2024, additional care was required. The family would like to thank Bach-Uyen Thi, M.D., Angelo Mishio NP-C, Santa Rosa Hospital staff, the Sandy Ridge Center for Rehabilitation and Healing, the nursing staff of Emeral Coast Hospice for the care and compassion that was given to our family. “In lieu of flowers, the Britton family invites friends to honor Reverend Curtis Edward Britton by making a donation to the charity of your choice.”

Reverend Curtis Edward Britton’s life was a testimony of faith, love, and service. His impact on family, church, and community will continue to inspire for generations to come.

Funeral service for Curtis Edward Britton will be 11AM Saturday September 20, 2025 at Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Timothy Trent and Reverend Bob McKibben officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour before services. Interment will be in Smyra Baptist Church Cemetery.
