Dale Merritt Chapman, 86, of Arnoldsburg, died Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Roane General Hospital, Long term unit, Spencer.
He was born September 29, 1939, at Spencer, the son of the late William and Ora Mae Dawson Chapman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Chapman; son, John Ramsey; daughter, Julie Miller; sisters, Polly Ann DeBolt and Jackie Thivierge; brothers, Denzil Chapman, Frederick Chapman and Allen Joe Chapman.
Dale was a retired ironworker and a former member of the United Mine Workers Association.
He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his sons, James L. and Lisa Chapman of Arnoldsburg and Dale E. and Diane Chapman of Spencer; eight grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren.
Dale enjoyed working on his farm, spending time with his grandkids fishing and woodworking.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapman Cemetery at a later date.
Military Honors will be accorded by the W. Va. Army National Guard Honor Guard.
John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is assisting the family with arrangements.
