WORCESTER-Daniel R. Benoit 61 of Worcester and Dennisport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 17 2013 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, surrounded by family and friends after a 2 ½ year struggle with cancer.He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years Eileen (Ryan) Benoit, his son Major Keith Benoit U.S. Army and his wife Katie (Hunsicker) Benoit of Ft Irwin, CA and his daughter Melanie Benoit of Worcester. Danny so loved his children and daughter in law and was so proud of their many accomplishments. Danny also leaves his sister Patricia Benoit Lennon of Auburn, Aunts June McNutt and Patricia Cronin of Worcester and his Uncle George and his wife Theresa of Melbourne, FL. Mother and Father in law, Maurice and Mary Ryan of Worcester and Sister in law Brenda Baskis of Fitchburg. Nieces and nephews, Kelly Chenail, Kristi Bruwer, Craig Baskis, Gillian Lennon and Jacob Moisio. Great nieces, Lauren and Audrey Chenail, Kailynn Bruwer and Bailey Baskis. Many cousins and his extended family the Blanchards and the Moisios. Danny was predeceased by his parents Richard and Rita Benoit and his two brothers, Ricky and Peter Benoit.Danny was born in Worcester on June 4, 1952. He graduated from Doherty Memorial High School in 1970. He began working for New England Telephone in 1971 at the Shrewsbury garage and retired from Verizon in 2003. During his career he attended the Nynex sponsored Next Step Program at Quinsigamond Community College and graduated with highest honors, an achievement of which he was very proud. After retirement, Danny returned to Verizon as an instructor at the learning center in Marlboro and at various centers around the country, a job he truly loved.Danny loved playing golf and was a member of the Monday Golf League at Holden Hills Country Club for many years. He enjoyed golfing with friends on Cape Cod and had the pleasure of golfing in Ireland and this past spring in England with his longtime friend Derek while on a trip to Europe celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary with his wife. He enjoyed watching the Patriots and participating in the weekly football pool.Danny had many friends whose lives he touched over the years. He was always willing to help with a project or to lend a helping hand, there wasn't anything he couldn't fix or build. He spent many an afternoon at Greendale's Pub with Billy, Jerry and the gang from Verizon rehashing their work day. He was always ready with a joke and had a laugh like no other. Danny B, as he was known, was just a good guy! He will remain in our hearts forever.The Benoit family would like to thank the many friends and family members who have shared so much of their time, love and support throughout this long journey. A special thank you is extended to the VNA home hospice staff especially Becky and Yvette, who provided excellent care at home, and to the entire staff at Rose Monahan Hospice Home for their kind and compassionate care and to Nancy for her spiritual guidance throughout his hospice care journey. Also, a thank you to Dr. Bruce Johnson and Pamela Calarese NP of Dana Farber Cancer Institute for working so hard to extend Danny's life and giving us quality time with him.Danny's funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 21st at 11:00 am at St George Church, 40 Brattle St., Worcester MA. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, December 20th at Callahan & Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. Worcester.
