In the early morning of December 15, 2024, Daniel “Dan” Dour of Aromas, CA, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family. Dan was born on July 17, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY, the oldest of three children of Daniel H. Dour and Sally Dour. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald, and sister, Virginia “Ginnie.”
Dan grew up along the Hudson River in Nyack, NY. Beginning in 1952, during the Korean Conflict, he served in the United States Navy aboard the carrier USS Midway and was honorably discharged in 1954. Dan was awarded the National Defense Service Ribbon. Following his service in the Navy, Dan attended the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, where he studied printing technology.
As Dan pursued what would become his lifelong career in the printing industry, he traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, on his way west, where he met the love of his life, Dolores Marie Hurley. Dan and Dolores were married on April 29, 1961.
The couple settled in California in 1962, welcoming their first son, Daniel Lawrence, in November of that year, and their second son, David Michael, in November 1965. Dan found great success in printing sales during the 1970s and 1980s, running his own business, Dour Enterprises. He “retired” in the early 1990s, though he remained constantly busy with various projects.
Dan loved working with his hands, building and creating around the home and landscape, and even helping design his dream home in Aromas, CA. Dan and Dolores moved into their forever home in Logan Knolls/Aromas in 1999. He quickly became a community fixture, hosting holiday parties for neighbors and friends. Known for his generosity, kind heart, and no-nonsense attitude, Dan also served on the Logan Knolls HOA Board.
He particularly enjoyed woodworking, refurbishing items around the home, and roaming the property on his tractor. Dan stayed active with building and painting projects right up until the last months of his life.
Dan will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and provider, for his strong work ethic, and for his care for those less fortunate than himself. A devoted family man, Dan was surrounded by his loving family at home during his final days.
A memorial Mass will be held at Mission San Juan Bautista on January 24, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of life. His ashes will be interred at the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery at Fort Ord, CA, in a private ceremony
