Obituary

Daniel's Obituary

Mr. Daniel W. Freeman III, 91, of Charlotte NC departed this life on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville NC.

Also known as Coach Freeman, at Kennedy Junior High School, he strived for fairness and equality on every team he ever coached.  As a player on his team, you were given an opportunity to play in every game, because he believed that every player on the team deserved a chance, regardless of their level of skill or popularity as a player.

After retiring, Mr. Freeman served on the University Park Neighborhood Watch Committee and frequently volunteered as a basketball coach at the West Charlotte Recreation Center. He loved talking to the young children in his neighborhood about sports and other various topics and often encouraged them to work hard and follow their dreams, no matter what.  An avid reader, he spent countless hours at the Beatties Ford Road Library where he became a proud member of the organization, Friends of the Public Library. Fostering a love for family and friends, he and his wife, Margaret, were very active in visiting friends, family members, and church members who were sick & shut in or in the hospital.  They also took friends and family members to numerous doctor's appointments and provided rides to seniors to vote at the polls, when needed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the JCSU Institutional Advancement fund in memorial of Daniel Webster Freeman, III.
