This is very belated, but I am very saddened by the passing of my friend. Dan helped me immensely in my run for city council. Even though we had differing views, we got along surprisingly well. I will miss seeing his smiling face.

Daniel's Obituary

Daniel Scott McCassie was born September 22, 1965, to Joseph and JoAnne McCassie.  He passed away unexpectedly in his home on May 2, 2024 at the age of 58.Dan is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, LaRae Lofton McCassie, sister, Andrea Wiltshire (Tim), brother Nick McCassie (Ariel), Children,Derek McCassie (Sierra), Jake McCassie, Becca McCassie, “Reese McCassie”, stepchildren, DesaRae Lofton, Jeffrey Lofton, Grandchildren, Kennedy McCassie, JosephMcCassie and Noah McCassie.Dan was born in Reno at St. Mary’s Hospital, raised in Fernley, NV and graduated from Fernley High School in 1984.  Shortly after high school he joined the Army NationalGuard and was honorably discharged in 1996.Dan owned and operated the Pawn Shop in Fernley for 35 years and sold it a year ago to pursue his dream of doing “dirt work” full time at Dirty Dan’s Tractor Service.He was on the Fernley City Council for 7 years and ran for Mayor.  He also held the director and chair position for the fire department.  You could always find him involvedwith the community in some way.Dan enjoyed many activities and was the social butterfly.  He always had a smile, a lending hand and made friends easily.  Some activities he enjoyed included trapshooting, traveling, any new adventures and going on motorcycle rides with his wife.  He lived life to the fullest and loved being around family, friends and especiallyhis many dogs.Please come help celebrate Dan’s life at 10:00 am on Thursday May 16, 2024 at the North Lyon County Fire Protection District at 195 E. Main Street in Fernley, Nevada.
