Daniel G. O'Connell, of Medford, passed away suddenly on December 12, 2025, he was 64.
Born in Everett and raised in Medford, Daniel was the son of the late Anna M. (Trebino) O'Connell, who died in June of this year and James A. O'Connell, who died in October of this year.
Daniel is survived by his brother, James G. O’Connell and his partner Michael Micale of Alpharetta, Georgia and by his nieces and nephews, Jimmy and his wife Lindsey, Julianne, Jaclyn, Jennifer, John and two grandnieces and one grandnephew; as well as many cousins. Sadly, he was also predeceased by his sister Joan E. O'Connell.
As a young adult, he worked in restaurants and was a limo driver… and did he have stories to tell like no other. Later in life, he worked in banking and accounting, but where he found the most happiness was at any nursery or florist that there was an opportunity. He had real knowledge for flowers and fauna, that always put a smile on people’s faces. Dan loved to travel and had the good fortune of time spent living in the warmer parts of the States, including Fort Lauderdale, San Diego and Honolulu.
Dan was the consummate caregiver, not just for family, but countless friends as well. If he could share his time with someone, just so they wouldn’t be alone…he did. If he could take them to a doctors appointment, bring them groceries or prescriptions … he did. He was selfless up to the end… and a true friend and gentleman to all.
Visiting hours for relatives and friends will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Wednesday, January 7th from 9:30AM - 10:30AM, followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church at 11:00AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Daniel's memory can be made to the Human Rights Campaign at https://www.hrc.org/
