love you and still miss you today as much as i did when you passed away , but knowing you are pain free and with Tayla makes me get thru the days of missing you ............. Your Diamond girl will always love you .

Danny it has been 2 years with out you , and everyday i think about you , sometimes it is a memory of something we did or you said . i have bad days and good days but i sit back and think to my self what would Danny do or say to make my day better ... Love and miss you now and forever . i am still your Diamond girl ........... that is something no one can take away from me .....

Goodbye, Uncle Danny. We all miss you. I know your sister, my mother, Andrea J. Skaggs misses you very much. I hope Tayla welcomed you home with open arms and that you found the peace that you deserve.

Well it is coming up on your 1 year anniversary that you left left us to be in Heaven with Tayla , i still think of you each and everyday and i miss you so much , knowing you are watching over me does give me some comfort that you may not be here with me but you will always have my back. always was and always will be your Diamond Girl , Love you forever.....

Daniel's Obituary

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Daniel Dean Skaggs, Sr., 63, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

He was born July 29, 1954, to Charles and Barbara (Surgis) Skaggs. He married Penny Schoenrock on June 8, 1974. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Tayla Skaggs-Cook.

Dan was formerly Chief of Police in Thayer and a part-time officer in Auburn. He retired as Police Sergeant from the Village of Jerome on March 15, 2018. He was a member of FOP Lodge 55 and volunteered for Toys for Tots for 13 years. He loved to garden, renovate his house and was Penny’s favorite pool boy.

He is survived by his wife, Penny; sons, Daniel II, Nicholas (Amber), Kristofer (Deborah) and Nathan Skaggs; 13 grandchildren, Daniel III, Nick, Joe, Abby, Alainaa, Nikson, Jersey, Cameron, Madelyn, Emma, Derrick, Devon and Cale; his dog, Maggie May; siblings, Hope Vicari, Karen (Jenny) Womack-Grafton, Maria Skaggs, Barry (Debbie) Skaggs, Todd Skaggs, Andrea (Daniel) Farrow, Mike, Glen and Pam; and several nieces and nephews.

Eulogy will begin at 3:45 p.m. with visitation to follow 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Skaggs family to be distributed to organizations of their choice.
