Daniel's Obituary

Daniel M. Stickler, 60, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Mosaic Life Care hospital. Daniel was born February 18, 1965 to Norman and Nola (Zapf) Stickler in Fairfax, Missouri. He graduated from Benton High School, where he played football and excelled at baseball, a talent he would continue to hone recreationally into his later years as his favorite hobby.

Dan was generally quiet and reserved, but his quick wit and humor made him a joy to be around in smaller settings with his kids, friends, and family. Like his father, Dan had a seemingly endless knowledge and curiosity for math and science, which led to a long career in the trades. He could build or fix anything, from his own roof to the many cars he bought and restored to function. He enjoyed nature and rarely missed an opportunity for outside activities. Dan was a very tough individual; he never complained and the pain he endured towards the end of his life was rarely evidenced by his expressions.

He was an avid fan of Missouri Tigers Football and Basketball, as well as the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. He also loved reading, and kept books of American history and politics always within reach. One thing Dan will certainly be remembered for is his tenacity and the sense of duty that propelled him. No matter what was ever going on in his life, he woke up every day with a brave face, put on his Levi’s 505s, downed a pot of coffee, and went to work.

He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Stickler.

Daniel is survived by his mother Nola, brother Robert and sister Lisa; children Cara (John) Bertrand, Mason Stickler, Ellyn (Cole) Helbert, Kirby Stickler, and Marilyn Stickler; and grandchildren Raquel Bertrand, Audrey Bertrand, Luke Bertrand, Charlotte Bertrand, Jonathan (Cooper) Helbert and Sebastian Helbert.

Services for Daniel will be held on Friday, September 19th, 2025 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith-Sidenfaden Chapel at 9:30 AM, officiated by Celebrant, Rex Strayer. The family will receive friends in visitation one half hour before the service, starting at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in St. Joseph, Missouri.
