Darla's Obituary

Darla Ann Lape, age 61 of Goshen, IN, passed away at 3:15 am on Saturday, May 11, 2025 at Goshen Hospital after a short battle with cancer.  Darla was born on August 5, 1963 in South Bend, IN to Keith and Sue (Martin) McCuen.  She was a 1981 NorthWood High School graduate and lived her life in the Nappanee, IN area.  She worked for 38 years at Ascot Enterprises in Nappanee; she was a dedicated, hard-working employee and took pride in her work.  On May 29, 2022 Darla married Dwayne Lape in Goshen, IN.  Darla had a wonderful sense of humor and loved spending time with family and friends.  She had a great sense of adventure and loved finding new and exciting restaurants to try with those close to her. She loved animals and supported the Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Walk in Ft. Wayne every year.  Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister.  She is survived by her husband Dwayne Lape of Goshen; 3 children: Jessica Spivey of Nappanee, Brant Stutzman of Nappanee, and Kassandra Stutzman of Goshen; 2 bonus children: Eve (Erik) Ponce of Elkhart, IN and Michael (Amy) Lape of South Bend, IN; 6 grandchildren: Rosie, Oliver, Gabe, JoJo, Eddie, and Leilani; mother, Sue Hinton of Nappanee; sisters, Deb (Devon) Herr of Nappanee and Diane (Dennis) Carr of Arizona; step-mother, Sue Hostetler of Wakarusa, IN, and a half sister, Ja-Lyn McCuen of Nappanee.  Darla was preceded in death by her father and 2 siblings: Jason McCuen and Courtney McCuen. Visitation will be held from 9-11 am on Saturday, May 17, 2025 with a memorial service beginning at 11 am, all at Thompson-Lengacher Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.  Rev. Stacy Dickt will officiate.  Memorial contributions in Darla’s name can be given to the Elkhart County Humane Society or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
