Darrell's Obituary

Darrell Antonius Bates was born on November 12, 1971, in New Orleans, LA. He’s the second of four children born to the union of the late Carl and Barbara Brown-Bates. He was educated in the Jefferson Parish school system and graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1989. He continued his education at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX.

 

Darrell was baptized at an early age, at James Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, in New Orleans, La under the leadership of Pastor Cleveland Turner, Sr. Darrell was loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his big heart, kindness and the joy he brought to everyone’s life. He was a lover of all sports, specifically basketball and football, and he was employed at Dyke Industries, Inc at the time of his death. 

 

Darrell leaves to cherish his memory; his siblings Johnell, Carlous and Qiana Bates of Metairie, LA Suprina (Tyrone) Jordan of Marreo, LA Kassandria (Philip) Stewart and Caddessa Bates of McComb, MS, and Winette Knox of Texas. His wife, Brenda Bates. Also, his devoted nieces Ashley Brown and Kayla Bates, goddaughter Jada Hutchinson, best friend Marshelle Nelson, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his loving parents, his sister Linda Faye Bates, grandparents Willie Bates, Sr., Berdie Thompson, Fred Brown and Mildred Brown. Aunts Michelle Adams and Ruby Lee White, uncles Morris and Jesse Bates, Roosevelt and Donald “Don” Nunnery. 

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Dennis Funeral Home, 1812 Louisiana Ave., New Orleans, LA, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:00 am. Visitation begins at 10:00 am. Interment: Private. Arrangements entrusted to Dennis Funeral Home.
