Not sure what to say?

Daryl and I were high school friends. The summer of 1957 we worked together at the Chautauqua County Farm. After receiving our final pay from the County Farm we realized it would be hard to go back to high school. We joined the US Army and stationed in Fort Knox Kentucky, Aberdeen and then went to Germany. Daryl was a great guy and I will always have find memories odd our time together. Loving Memories, Sonny Lund

Darryl and his brothers overcame so many life obstacles and were so very successful as human beings. God is welcoming all the brothers and they finally are all together once again. A life well lived. Praying for the whole family.

So sorry to hear. The brothers are together and will be missed by us all. Each an incredible father and role model. Prayers and love to you all!
Brett

My sincerest condolences to Earlene and the family. My late husband and I were neighbors many years ago. A very loving, hard working family. Good people. Prayers and hugs to all.

You will be remembered in the community.

Put his faith in God first.

So sorry to hear about Darryl. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family. I know how hard this is on everyone. When I stopped by the store and spoke to Earlene a couple of years ago I wish I had known where the farm was so I could have seen him also. My friend Luke told me she would show me next time I came up. She said she worked with Darryl on the mail route. My heart goes out to Bev also.

.

We are so sorry to hear about this. Darryl meant so much to his family and his community. We take a little solace in knowing the brothers are reunited and our prayers are with Earlene and the family.

I’m so saddened to hear of Darryl’s passing. I know no words can ease your pain right now -please know my thoughts and prayers are with you all..

MAYVILLE-Darryl W. Propheter, 84, of Mayville passed away on May 11, 2025 at home surrounded by his wife and children.  Darryl was born on May 20, 1940 in the Town of Ellicott to Woodrow and Marion Wares Propheter.      Darryl graduated with High Honors from Jamestown Community College in 1967 earning his Associate’s in Mechanical Engineering.  However, Darryl realized his dream when he purchased a 200-acre farm on Beaujean Road in Mayville in 1967, expanding it to 600 acres over the years.   Darryl proudly bred and raised award winning black angus cattle for over 45 years and enjoyed raising and training Appaloosa horses.  He was also a Star-Route contractor for the USPS for 40 years, moving mail between post office locations in the area.  In 1971, Darryl purchased a gas station in Sherman, NY that he ran for several years.  He built a store on that property, where he and Earlene operated Sherman Central Tractor, serving area farmers for 49 years.

Darryl was a proud member of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Appaloosa Horse Club, War Veterans Recreation, the National Rifle Association, American Border Collie Association, and the American Legion.  He supported various children’s charities throughout his life.  Darryl was a lifelong Christian who attended the First Baptist Church in Mayville. His unwavering belief in God’s grace guided his every step.  His favorite place was at home on his farm surrounded by his animals and his family. He loved gardening, his grandchildren, country music, fixing tractors, playing cards, and reminiscing.
