DARRYLL ALLEN GILBERT

Darryll Allen Gilbert passed away on February 23, 2025.

Darryll was born in Sturgeon Lake to Joe and Violet (Gray) Gilbert. He grew up in Sturgeon Lake and attended school there before continuing his education in Willow River.

He dedicated much of his life to hard work and service. Darryll worked at Sturgeon Lake Industries and later at Moose Lake State Hospital, where he spent over 30 years in a variety of roles including truck driver, groundskeeper, and mechanic. He also worked for Dale Sandberg for nine years.

On September 7, 1985, Darryll married Donna Johansen. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2019.

He is survived by his children: Allen Gilbert, Melinda Jacobson, Michelle (Doug) Evenson, and Connie Evenson; step-children: Brenda (Richard) Adams, Audrey (John) Dano, David (Nadia) Johansen, Laura Munson, and Ruth Meier; his brother, Joe (Nancy) Gilbert, and his sister, Sheila (David) Hetherington; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends.

Darryll was an avid fisherman who found peace and joy on the water, especially in the quiet moments spent casting a line. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for the outdoors, and his dedication to his family. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Inurnment and a graveside service will take place at the cemetery in the spring.
