He was a great neighbor and I love to hear the story's that he told me about when he was a truck driver. He told me so many places where he drove at. I'm sure going to miss him. He was the best neighbor that I ever had. Pryer for the family. He sure will be missed by many.

David Edward James, Sr. age 73, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, VA.
David was born on June 6, 1951, to the late William Coy James and Mamie Cornett James. He was also preceded in death by his brother Albert James and his sister Ruby Barron. David was an exceptional father who singlehandedly raised his children without hesitation, extending his care not only to them but to all the neighborhood kids as well. He was a simple man who kept to himself, believed in hard work, and took pride in providing for his family. An avid outdoorsman, David had a deep love for being outside, whether it was horseback riding, running coon dogs, or logging, he enjoyed it all. David had a special passion for Appaloosa horses, especially his beloved The Famous Buckshot, and bluetick coon dogs. He was always ready with a story about late-night hunting adventures with his dogs or a memorable horse from his many years riding trails and participating in horse shows with his children. Known by the nickname "Underdog," David had seen the world firsthand and could captivate you for hours with tales of the deserts he crossed during his time as a truck driver and logger, trades in which he was well known. He was an early riser, often returning home long after sunset. Generous to a fault, he would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. David deeply loved his grandsons and granddaughters.
He is survived by his daughters Opal Davis & husband Michael, Ashley James, and Melanie Whaley; sons David James, Jr. & wife Ashley, and William “Winkie” James; sisters Vickie Morgan & husband James and Janie Cox; brothers Robert James & wife Nelda and Clifford James; 13 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and special friends Bim James and Chuck Scott.
