Not sure what to say?

I’m a couple of years older than David. I’ve known him since the Boys Club days. He was always a pleasure to be around. He’ll be missed.

Rest in peace. Angela Gahagan.

Love you, dear big brother. See you someday in heaven.

David was one of my boxing coaches when I was just a kid, his lessons stayed with me for life. I’ll always remember his kindness and the confidence he instilled. Rest in peace, Coach.

David's Obituary

David Glen Looney, 79, of Wichita Falls, Texas, went to be with the Lord on March 8, 2026.

A memorial service honoring David’s life will be held in April.  Details will be announced by the family at a later date.

He was born April 27, 1946, in Wichita Falls to Lurlene Johnson and Bud Looney.

On January 17, 1986, David married the love of his life, Darlene. For 40 years they built a life centered around faith, family, and love. They treasured spending time together with their family, attending church, and enjoying the simple moments at home with their two beloved dogs, Bo and Maggie.

One place that shaped David’s life from a young age was the Boys Club in Wichita Falls. He began going there when he was about five years old and often said that if it hadn’t been for the Boys Club, his life could have taken a very different path. That experience stayed with him and helped guide the man he became.

His faith in the Lord was the foundation of his life. For nearly 20 years, David faithfully served in Kairos and Horizon prison ministries. He had a special calling to share his testimony with inmates, believing his own life experiences helped him connect with them in a real and meaningful way. He wanted them to know that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace.

David loved the sport of boxing. What began as a passion led him to become a boxer himself and later a coach. Over the years he coached many young fighters, including several of Wichita Falls’ best Golden Gloves boxers. He loved each of the young men he mentored and had countless stories about the fighters he trained and the time they spent in the gym together.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, and his stepson, Kenneth Musick.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene Looney; his children, Teresa Fetamia, Angela Gahagan, and Michelle Morgan; his stepchildren, Kathy Malone, Donna Musick, and Steven Musick; his brothers, Wayne Northcott and Tim Looney; his sisters, Annette “Sissy” Bates and Brenda Owen; as well as 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren who brought him so much joy.

David will be remembered for his strong faith, his servant’s heart, his love for family, and the many lives he touched along the way. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort knowing that he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord he loved so much.
