David Omar passed away on September 7, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was 72 years old and beloved husband of Debbie for 50 wonderful years; proud father of Trevor (Autumn) Omar; dear brother-in-law of James Kernen, Mel Fugate (Donna), and the late Mark Kernen; and brother of Eugene. David is also survived by many fans, friends, and extended family.
David was born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan, and graduated from Dearborn High School. He ran numerous businesses over the years, notably his own security firm. He also had a long working history with Village Ford from which he retired.
David’s love for music was immeasurable. He played in many bands through the years, including gigs with many national acts. He was committed to music until the very end, playing gigs and recording in just the last few weeks. In recent years he formed, The BackSeat Drivers, which released two albums (one this past summer). Although David was primarily known as a drummer, he was also an accomplished singer/songwriter and inspired many other musicians.
One of his other great joys was the annual family vacation to Orlando for the Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights.
But most of all, David will be remembered for his quick smile, warm heart, infectious laugh, and generosity. These are well known and will forever be missed by anyone that had the pleasure and fortune of knowing him.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at the Dearborn Location of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Monday, September 16, 2024, 1:00-8:00 p.m. A sharing of memories service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday.
As an alternative to flowers, monetary gifts in David's memory to the family are appreciated.
