Deacon Barbara L. Epps Gravely

So sorry for your loss. I was priveledged to meet and work with Barbara in the early 90's while she was serving as Spec Ed Ccordinator for Sussex. We connected immediarely. Later my distant cousin Jack Gravely introduced her to me as the love of his life. We learned that we had connections in Emporia by way of my inlaws, friends and some cousins on the Moore side of her family. Wish we had spent more time together. Such a sweet person.

Ms. Barbara was more than a teacher she was like a second mother that taught me the importance of an education. She had that loving but firm hand on our lives. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it was not for her. She didn’t play when it came to learning. It took me a while to get out of my own way but I did it. So sorry to read about Mrs. Gravely. "Mrs. Moore" taught all 3 of us in 5th & 6th grades in Stony Creek & Jarratt. Great memories. Our best to Tonya & Randy.

Deacon Gravely was a beautiful angel of light. She always was an humble lady with a smile of love. I will always cherish the memories.
