Obituary

Deacon Charles's Obituary

Deacon Charles Benjamin Geter, Jr., of Chester, VA, peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 1:06 p.m. at Johnston-Willis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. At that sacred hour, heaven welcomed home another faithful servant of God - absent from the body but present with the Lord.

Born on April 11, 1960, in Petersburg, VA, Charles was the beloved son of Deacon Charles Geter, Sr. and Mother Ernestine Boothe Geter. He was one of three children and is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Karen M. Geter and Dwayne M. Geter (Velma).

Charles was educated in the Petersburg Public School System and graduated from Petersburg High School in 1978. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, where he served honorably for five years until his discharge in 1982.

That same year, he married the love of his life, Barbara Taylor Geter. Their union was blessed with three children: Chrystal Michelle Geter, Christopher Michael Geter, and Coury Maurice Geter, Sr. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Coury “CJ” Geter, Jr., Amia Geter, and Ava Muldrow.

Charles enjoyed a successful career at Honeywell Corporation (formerly Allied Chemical) in Chesterfield, VA, where he served for over 25 years. He began as a floor operator and advanced into the Information Technology division in the Central Control Lab. A skilled trainer and technical writer, Charles helped create employee manuals and mentored colleagues. He retired from Honeywell in 2019.

Charles loved spending time with his children - offering wisdom, support, and sharing in their accomplishments. Whether coaching them through job interviews, cheering from the sidelines, or lifting his voice beside them in worship, his presence was a steady and loving force in their lives.  Chucky loved and cared for his parents, visiting them daily throughout the week. He learned a lot from his father and mother, and he cherished every moment with them. Spending time just sitting and talking about various topics meant a great deal to him. The conversations he shared with his parents – the laughter and fun times with them will forever be missed. His parents were dear to his heart, and he always found the time to visit with them.

In his leisure, he found peace in nature, enjoying hiking and seeking the perfect fishing spot. He cherished time with his friends, including Roland Gerheart and all of his retirement co-workers, and often brought joy to others through laughter and storytelling. Chucky enjoyed vacationing each year with his family and sister-in-law, Patricia Taylor Henry. One of his favorite vacation trips was the five-days cruise on the Royal Caribbean Cruise line visiting numerous islands.

Deacon Charles Geter, Jr. was a man of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and enduring love. He was a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, and a trusted friend. His life was a reflection of integrity, humility, and purpose. Whether offering a word of encouragement, playing music, or simply enjoying time with loved ones, Charles created moments that will be remembered and treasured. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. His wisdom, kindness, and calming presence leave a lasting imprint. Though he will be deeply missed, we rejoice knowing he now rests in the arms of his Savior, and his life continues to inspire those he leaves behind.

Above all else, Charles was a man of deep faith. Baptized in Jesus’ Name and filled with the Holy Ghost according to Acts 2:38, he was raised in a Christian home and lived a life devoted to the Lord. A lifelong member of Calvary Temple, he served faithfully in numerous capacities - from playing the organ, keyboard, saxophone, and lead guitar, to leading as Chairman of the Deacon’s Board. He was a member of the Praise Team, the Voices of Calvary Choir, and co-founder of K.I.D.S. Church ("Kids In Divine Service") alongside his wife.

During the pandemic, Deacon Geter showed unwavering commitment by preparing the church sanctuary for worship each week, cleaning and sanitizing until his health would no longer allow. His love for God’s Word, dedication to prayer, and heart for service were evident to all. He was a member of the Noonday prayer band and a consistent source of encouragement to many.

Deacon Charles Benjamin Geter, Jr., is survived and will be remembered by the love of his life and devoted wife of 43 years, Barbara Taylor Geter; his children, Chrystal Geter, Christopher Geter and Coury Geter, Sr.; grandchildren, Coury “CJ” Geter, Amia Geter, and Ava Muldrow; his parents and siblings. Chucky is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends, and the Calvary Temple Church Family.  We express our Heartfelt gratitude to all of his physicians, caretakers, and the physicians and nurses at TriCities Hospital, Hopewell, VA and Johnston Willis Hospital, Chesterfield, VA for their unwavering support and care.

Deacon Charles Geter, Jr. will be missed by all who knew and loved him, but he’s resting now, peacefully in the arms of God.  His life and memories will live on through those who knew and loved him. Rest on Deacon Chucky, for we shall see you again on that great day, when God shall return to rapture His children to their eternal home.

The life of Deacon Charles “Chucky” Benjamin Geter, Jr. and the example he has left us to follow gives him the right to echo the words of Apostle Paul in his 2nd letter to young Timothy, “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” We deem this the late Deacon Charles Benjamin Geter, Jr., finest hour!
