Many laughs, many talks about the Lord, and many mornings and evenings working together at his car lot when I needed it most after work started to get scarce. I’m grateful to the Father to have known Brother Brown in this past year and a half.

Herman was full of life and he will be greatly missed by all of us at Alliance Auto Auction. I loved to talk with him about football and the Cowboys.

Deacon Herman Brown, Jr., affectionately known as HB, and Jr. Boy, among other aliases was born on November 1, 1958, in Hope, Arkansas, to the union of Margaret Jean Moore Brown and Herman Brown, Sr.
Herman attended the Old Washington, Arkansas, Segregated School, where he excelled in basketball, football, and track. A lover of sports throughout his life, he also pursued martial arts. Beyond athletics, Herman had many passions. He was an exceptional cook who enjoyed hosting barbecues and fish fries for family and friends. He was also an avid gardener, well known for growing a variety of fruits and vegetables—especially greens, muscadines, watermelon, okra, and purple hull peas.
A hardworking man, Herman was employed as a Journeyman Welder and was known for his dedication, often working from sunup to sundown and beyond. On July 24, 2002, he married the love of his life, Dr. Lela Robinson Brown. Herman had a larger-than-life personality—down-to-earth, fun-loving, and always ready to lend a helping hand. Gifted with the “gift of gab,” he touched many lives in the community. Above all, Herman loved the Lord. He was a faithful member of Union Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board and was active on the prayer team.
He also served his country honorably in the United States Army, before settling back into his community of McNab, Arkansas.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Claude Brown; two sisters: Shirley Kirby and Lorraine Brown; and one stepson, Sha’Quavion Posey.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Dr. Lela Robinson Brown of McNab; one son, Remond Gabriel Brown of Columbus, Arkansas; two daughters, Latonya Compton and Ah’Lesha Brown, both of Fulton, Arkansas; one stepdaughter, Sha’Letra Turner of Texarkana, Arkansas; three sisters, Judith Brown (Pete) of Fulton, Arkansas, Jacqueline Green (Randall) of Texarkana, Texas, and Monica Brown of Nashville, Arkansas; two brothers-in-law: Jimmy Robinson (Arlena), Lee Frank Robinson both of Pensacola, Florida; two sisters-in-law: Eva Cleveland (Rev. Mark), Dorothy Jean Robinson both of Ashdown, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Herman’s life was one of service, love, and joy. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in his honor at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Union Baptist Church in Fulton, Arkansas. A final viewing will take place at the close of the service. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Westmoreland Cemetery in Crossroads, Arkansas.
An online guestbook is available below for family and friends to share tributes and condolences. Brandon’s Mortuary is honored to serve the Brown family with professional care.
