Obituary

Deacon J. W.'s Obituary

Deacon J. W.  Sutton, Sr. of 144 Mixon Street, Unadilla, Georgia, died Sunday, October 5, 2025, at his residence.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Dooling, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Little Poplar Spring Cemetery in Byromville, Georgia.

Deacon J. W. Sutton, Sr., our beloved father and grandfather, was born on October 25, 1928, in Pinehurst, Georgia. He was the cherished son of Hubert Sutton and Amanda Cherry Sutton and received his education in the public schools of Dooly County.

Deacon Sutton was a devoted member of the New Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Byromville, Georgia, where he served faithfully as a deacon. His deep faith and commitment to his church community were hallmarks of his life, inspiring many around him.

Deacon Sutton had a passion for good singing and loved spending time with his family. One of his favorite activities was counting planes with his neighbor. He also enjoyed the challenge of word search puzzles and was an avid fan of television shows like “Walker, Texas Ranger”, “Wheel of Fortune”, and “The A-Team”.

Deacon Sutton shared a loving life with his wife, Mrs. Debbie Woodson Sutton, who, along with his parents and children—Rose Mary Hunter, Helen Louise Law, Jimmy Lee Sutton, and J. W. Sutton, Jr.—preceded him in death. 

Deacon J. W. Sutton, Sr. passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, October 5, 2025. His life was a testament to the power of faith, family, and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his loving and devoted children: Reverend Johnny Sutton (Joann) of Covington, Georgia, Mary Sutton of Vienna, Georgia, Wanda Canady (Earnest) of Unadilla, Georgia, Jerry Sutton of Vienna, Georgia, Timothy Sutton (Mammie) of Cordele, Georgia, Larry Sutton of Vienna, Georgia, Pamela Sutton Collins of Unadilla, Georgia, and Dexter Sutton (LeAnn) of Vienna, Georgia; 30 beloved grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great grandchildren; a loving sister, Berthina Foster of Cincinnati, Ohio; his caring brothers, Charles Sutton of Norfolk, Virginia, Randy Sutton of California, Tommy Sutton of Cincinnati, Ohio, Anthony Sutton of Boston, Massachusetts, and Gregory Sutton of Washington State, Washington; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, including Rubene Taylor of Unadilla, Georgia.
