Deacon Walter McGill, better known as "Spanky" of 312 West 15th Avenue, Cordele, Georgia, died Saturday, December 27th, at his residence.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the J. W. Williams Funeral Home in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.
Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services is required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. A mask must be worn throughout the stay. You must supply your mask.
Deacon Walter McGill, beloved son of the late Mr. George McGill, Sr. and Mrs. Willene Andrews McGill, was born on December 8, 1957, in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia. Known to his family and friends as “Spanky,” he spent his formative years in the public school system of Crisp County.
Walter was a member of the Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Cordele, Georgia. Through his commitment to his faith and love for the people of God, he served with a willing heart. He was an ordained Deacon and also served his church family as the dedicated church van driver, ensuring that all members could attend services and church events.
A true sports enthusiast, Spanky was an avid football fan. He had an unwavering loyalty to the Pittsburgh Steelers, a passion that he shared with many of his friends and family.
Known for his generous spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand, he would offer a ride, running errands, or accompanying someone to a doctor's appointment, Walter was always ready to assist others in need. His selflessness and kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Walter's life was enriched by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. George McGill, Sr., and his brothers, Mr. George McGill, Jr., and Mr. Myron Stacy McGill.
Walter McGill departed this life on Saturday, December 27, 2025. His legacy of love, faith, and service will forever be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He leaves behind cherished memories with his mother, Mother Willene A. McGill of Cordele, Georgia; his sister, Mrs. Ophelia Nealy (George) of Lithonia, Georgia; his brothers, Mr. Jerome McGill (Barbara) of Fairhope, Alabama, Mr. Keith McGill of Cordele, Georgia, and Mr. Michael McGill (Georgia) of Cordele, Georgia. Walter is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mrs. Ramel McGill of Cordele, Georgia; his uncles, Mr. Howard Crawford of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mr. Walter Andrews (Beverly) of Griffin, Georgia; and a devoted nephew, Mr. Terry McGill of Stone Mountain, Georgia. His legacy is further carried on by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, including a special friend, Ms. Latonya Peacock of Cordele, Georgia.
