Dean's Obituary

Dean Edward BuchmanSeptember 25, 1963 – October 10, 2025

Dean Edward Buchman, 62, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away on October 10, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Hayward, Wisconsin, Dean’s life was shaped by curiosity, creativity, and compassion. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University, a foundation that reflected his precise mind and inventive spirit. Throughout his career, Dean approached every challenge with both logic and heart—whether designing solutions, repairing engines, or mentoring others.

Most recently, Dean taught at Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls, where his calm presence and genuine care for his students made a lasting impact. He was also deeply rooted in his faith community, teaching Sunday School and serving faithfully on the vestry at Calvary Episcopal Cathedral.

Dean’s life was beautifully guided by three constants: family, faith, and football. He poured his heart into fatherhood—spending hours rehearsing his famous “Dad’s dance” routines for his daughter’s recitals, and later serving as the trusted mechanic for his son on the Amsoil Snocross racing circuit. Whether in the garage, the classroom, or the church, Dean’s love, humor, and patience made him a steady presence and a source of strength for those around him.

Dean is lovingly remembered by his children, Alexandra (Michael) Buchman Howard and Ian Buchman; his granddaughter, Mikaela Howard; his father, Ed Buchman; his brother, Jeff (Julie) Buchman; his sister, Kim (Gordie) Moote; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janelle Buchman.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Calvary Episcopal Cathedral in Sioux Falls, with a luncheon to follow. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather in celebration of Dean’s life and faith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Jeff Buchman, in care of Heritage Funeral Home, to help cover funeral expenses.
