Dean's Obituary

Dean McGinty Sands, Jr., 92 of Palestine, Texas, went to be with the Lord on December 16, 2016. He was born on February 8, 1924 in East Bernard, Texas, to Dean and Pearl Sands. He grew up in East Bernard and attended East Bernard School. On December 23, 1942 he enlisted in the United States Navy. After completing his military service, he went to work for DOW Chemical Company as a chemist and then went in business for himself as a cabinet maker. He was united in marriage to Mary Urban on April 26, 1947. This marriage was blessed with three children Donald, Melvin and Marilyn. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mary, sister Barbara, and brother Lauren. He is survived by his wife Lela of 29 years, brothers Charles, Herschel, and Wayne, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, along with many other family members and friends. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in his memory. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 21, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 12 noon at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapels and Cemeteries in Rosenburg, Texas.
