Debra Jones Obituary

A home going graveside service will be held for Sister Debra Jeanne Mills Jones on Saturday February 20th , 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Orange Hill
Cemetery, 4900 E. Chelsea Street, Tampa, Florida with Elder Delton Chambers, officiating. Sister Debra Jeanne Mills Jones passed away on February 10th , 2021.


Sister Debra Jeanne Mills Jones was born September 3, 1959 in Tampa, Florida to the late Jasper Earl and Mother Mattie Delores Gaines Mills. Debra graduated from Brandon High School in 1977. She worked for Hillsborough County Circuit Court, Hillsborough County School Board, Tampa Electric, MetLife, Barnette Bank, her own home daycare and Hilton Hotels.


She was saved at an early age and was a faithful and devoted member of St. Paul Temple Church of God in Christ under the late Elder H.L. Simpson, Palm River Church of God in Christ under the late Elder Ollie Mills and Full Gospel Church of God in Christ under the late Elder Robert Douglas.


Debra was a diligent worker keeping her family together. Starting at a young age, she was the family reunion coordinator and wherever else she needed, she was there. Debra loved traveling worldwide. Her last trip was to Dubai with her late daughter, Angela.


Debra was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Leon Mills (Butmo); father, Jasper Mills; mother, Mattie Mills and daughter, Angela Jones.


She leaves a legacy of love and family including, Larry Jones; son, Lawrence Jones; two sisters, Angela Diane Mills and Florence Durden; two brothers, Willie Grimlsey and Kenyatta Mills (wife, Lori); uncles, Emory Gaines (wife, Jean), Dave Gaines (wife, Betty), Barney Mills (wife, Gwen), Roy Mills (wife, Robin); aunts, Delores Bradley; Lottie Daniels, Annie Bell Mills, Minnie Benson, Celestine Gaines; nieces, Dayla and Tamaya Mills and Kennedi Mills; godmother, Lonnie Young; god sisters, and god brothers; loved ones, Tammy Keaton, Renee Gaines Bowie, Cynthia Jones, Sandra Peterson, Dora Hargrove, Ella Blackman; in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other loved ones and cherished friends.


There will be a viewing on Friday February 19th , 2021 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29th Street Tampa, Florida. Due to the current CDC restrictions, we are asking that you use the visitation as an opportunity to pay your final respect. For your convenience and safety, we have extended our visitation hours.

My condolences to the Jones and Mills families! [Deb] I will miss you dearly; but will continue on in life with the assurance that you are dancing around Heaven with God; and that you are looking down on all of us as our Guardian Angel. The love I have for you my God Sister, is never-ending, you watched my journey from a boy to a man, teaching me life long lessons along the way--thank you. I will miss our talks; but understand Heaven needed your conversations more. We got the rock now and will look out for the rest of the family, so rest well my sister rest well Deb.
