Deloris's Obituary

Deloris Henderson was born on March 6, 1949, in Warren County, North Carolina, to the late Arthur and Lora Helen Drumgo Henderson of Drewery, North Carolina. She transitioned from her earthly home to eternal rest in the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 30, 2026.

Deloris was a faithful member of Oak Level United Church of Christ and served on  the Usher Board until her health began to decline. Under the leadership of Pastor Leon White, she was continually encouraged to “keep the faith,” a message she carried with her throughout her life.

Affectionately known as “Red” or “Red Head” by her siblings and “Lois” by friends and extended family, Deloris was well known for her signature dyed honey blonde hair, a look she proudly wore since the age of fourteen.

She received her education in the Warren County Public School System and spent her early years working on farms alongside her family and community. In her younger years, Deloris moved to New York seeking a change from farm life, but soon realized she preferred the peace of home. She returned to North Carolina, embracing her true nature as a country girl—one who loved fresh pork, homegrown vegetables, and long afternoons sitting on the front porch enjoying fresh air, laughter, and fellowship with family and friends.

Deloris worked faithfully for many years as a housekeeper and nanny for Dr. Walter Burwell in Henderson, North Carolina. After his retirement, she continued working at Americal Factory and the Golden Skillet in Henderson, alongside her late best friend, Jean Ragland. She later settled into long-term employment at Roses on Dabney Drive, where she worked for over 30 years before retiring.

In her leisure time, Deloris enjoyed fishing, family gatherings in Drewery at her sisters’ homes, and most of all, being anywhere there was a front porch, beautiful weather, good laughter, and the company of loved ones. In those moments, she was truly happy and content.

Deloris was preceded in death by her daughter, Brandie Monique Burton; her first born grandson, Chrisdarrius “Jay” Clark; her parents, Arthur and Lora Henderson; her beloved grandmother, Sallie Bet Drumgo; and her siblings, Arthur Henderson Jr., Sallie Bee Rollins, and Stevie Henderson.

She leaves to cherish her everlasting memories her devoted husband, William “Spooky” Henderson; her daughters, whom she lovingly referred to as “her girls”: Charlene (Alonzo) Henderson, Terkeitha “Keyta” (Lamont) Moore of the home, and Tiffany “DeAnn” (Cliff) Burton; and bonus children, Renardo Hayes and Carol Manning. She also leaves her treasured grandchildren, whom she loved wholeheartedly especially the two oldest, who proudly called her “Ma”: Charlene “Shunta” Henderson, Jaron Hargrove, Jada Deloris Pernell, Preston “June "Pernell Jr., Jeremiah Burton, and her “Smack’em,” Jiheem Burton; and one beloved great-grandchild, Shamorri Bullock, whose dancing brought her endless joy.

Additional survivors include her siblings: Mary Brown of Henderson, NC; Shirley (Tom) Marks of Warrenton, NC; Katrina (Mike) Henderson; Elaine (James) Henderson; Carolyn (Matthew) Henderson, all of Warrenton, NC.

She is also lovingly remembered by her goddaughter, Wanda Deloris Dortch, and her cherished “Golden Girls,” sisters in Christ—Katrina Reid, Rev. Alma Pettaway, and Izora Gooding who remained faithful friends, sharing laughter, love, and countless memories in church and on her front porch.

Viewing will be held at Baskerville Funeral Home Chapel, 104 S. Chestnut Street, Henderson, North Carolina from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026.
