Tenants at The Amo apartment building still remember Dennis fondly. His T-shirts, with their humorous slogans, are a favorite memory. We appreciate all the years Dennis took care of the building and cared for the tenants.

I’ll never forget when I was 11 years old and Dennis came to the house to see our husky Sheba and her puppy’s. He wanted a puppy so he picked one up to look at it and lo and behold, Sheba came running in from the kitchen and saw him with her puppy and immediately jumped up and bit him in his lip. Dennis Betz passed away on May 12, 2022 at the age of 70.
We are all deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dennis Betz. He was the loving long-time boyfriend of Sheila Sharp; much loved brother of Denise (Jerry) Peterson, Lorene (Jim) Stanton, Noreen (Steve) Bobrocky, Robert Newman, and Loren (Cathy) Newman Jr. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol (Loren) Newman; father, Charles Betz; and younger brother, John Betz.
Dennis was born in Detroit and spent most of his life in the downtown area. He managed apartment buildings there and enjoyed all of the sports the city had to offer. He felt at home when he visited Olympia Stadium, Cobo Hall, and Tiger Stadium. He really was a part of the fabric of the city. Dennis had many interests in life including; sports, sports, sports, and other sports. He had an amazing ability to compare stats of todays players to players of 20, 30, or even 40 years ago. His favorite sports were hockey and baseball. While he wasn’t thrilled with the lions, he also loved football. He was a mega fan of Tom Brady. It was rare to have a conversation with him where Tom Brady wasn’t mentioned.
Dennis loved playing darts and was in a league for many years—he was one of the better players. There were several family members that joined his team and there is no doubt that he thoroughly enjoyed that connection.
Dennis also loved animals. He had parakeets in his early years and especially loved his husky, King. Other than sports, he shared a love of paint by numbers with our mother and really enjoyed puzzles in his later years. Dennis leaves behind a large family that deeply loved him—he will truly be missed.
