Obituary

DeWayne's Obituary

DeWayne Edward Rodgers lived a life full of laughter, love, and unforgettable energy. From his early days at Banneker all the way through Roosevelt High School, DeWayne built friendships that would last a lifetime. He was a proud Panther, playing football and bringing his heart to the field. Off the field he was outgoing, friendly, and had a gift for connection. DeWayne genuinely loved people and quickly turned strangers into friends. A natural jokester, he kept everyone laughing with his quick wit and playful spirit. He loved to dance and he loved to eat, doing both with enthusiasm. If there was music playing, you could count on him to “get down” on the dance floor. According to him, his dance moves made him popular with the ladies, but aside from that he had confidence and a natural charm that made people gravitate toward him. At the very center of his heart was his baby sister. When she went away to college, so did he, unofficially. Visiting all the time, so much that he should have been an honorary student. DeWayne worked in heating and cooling, took pride in his work and was always willing to help those if he could. DeWayne Edward Rodgers will be remembered for his laughter, his big heart, and the unforgettable presence he carried into every room. His legacy will live on through the stories we tell, the music that makes us dance, and the joy he brought us.
