Dewey Norris, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on December 9, 2025, at the age of 89. Dewey was born on February 13, 1936, to Dennis Norris and Minnie Lou Qualls Norris, who instilled in him the values of humility, hard work, and steadfast faith that he carried throughout his life.
For many years, Dewey served as a custodian at Plant City High School, a job he approached with pride and purpose. He loved his work, but even more, he cherished the daily fellowship with the teachers and students whose lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and dependable spirit. His presence in the halls of Plant City High became a constant—steady, warm, and greatly appreciated by all who knew him.
After retiring, Dewey embraced a quieter pace of life, finding joy in fishing along peaceful waters and watching the old westerns he loved so dearly. These simple pleasures brought him comfort and contentment, reminding those around him of his appreciation for life’s uncomplicated blessings.
Dewey was a man who knew the worth of an honest day’s work, and he passed that character on to his sons, Pete and Bo. His family was the heartbeat of his life. He treasured his daughter, Christine; his boys, Pete and Bo; and the grandchildren who affectionately called him “Pawpaw.” His love for them was steadfast and unwavering.
A man of deep faith, Dewey leaned on Jesus Christ through every season of his life, especially as he bravely battled many health challenges. He truly fought the good fight, kept the faith, and finished the race with dignity and perseverance.
Dewey leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and devotion—one that will be carried forward by all who were blessed to know him.
Dewey was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Norris; his mother, Minnie Lou Qualls Norris; his son, Dennis Monroe Norris; his brothers, Willie Norris, Lewis Norris, and Donald Norris; and his sisters, Allene Slover, Maxine Coon, and Dorothy Norris.
He is survived by his sons, Bo Norris and Pete Norris (Jan); his daughter, Christine Holzhauer; his brother, Edward Norris; and his sister, Jean Norris. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Dennis, Timothy, Ashley, Jeffery, Ashley Nicole, Aleisha, Staci, and Austin; numerous great-grandchildren; and a loving extended family including many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Dewey Norris will be held Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Evans Funeral Home, with John Lovelady officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery.
