QUORTRUP, Dewie Judith peacefully left us to go home on Sunday morning, October 23rd. Dewie’s Memorial Service will be this Friday morning at 10:30am at Mitas Hill Vineyard (MitasHill.com) just north of McKinney. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to: The ALS Living Fund, 7454 Fossil Ridge Drive, Frisco, Texas 75034. The ALS Fund works to improve the quality of life for people living with ALS. Dewie was born on December 27th, 1944 in Los Angeles and grew up in Ajijic, Jalisco just south of Guadalajara. From an early age she was a talented singer and was known and loved for her Mexican folk music. She married Pete Quortrup on September 17th, 1977 and they had a daughter, Sarah. Dewie was also a wonderful and loving stepmom to Pete’s sons Benjamin and Oben. Dewie was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease in 2007 and her open, loving, graceful and incredibly happy nature came into full bloom as she made her remarkable journey with ALS, choosing life and joy at every turn.
Dewie is survived by her husband, Pete and their children, Benjamin of Frisco, Oben and his wife Lisa of Fort Worth, and Sarah of Frisco, three grandchildren: Amanda, Anabelle and Kees, her brother David Dutton of Idaho, niece Laura and nephew Michael, both also of Idaho, her sister Forrest Nelson of Alaska, her aunt Marilouise Jackson-Smart of California and many cousins and other family.
