Dewitt “junior” Cleveland Hamrick Jr., age 84, died Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Carolina’s Healthcare System-Kings Mountain. Born in Cleveland County on August 15, 1932, he was the son of the late Dewitt Cleveland and Buna Ethel Hawkins Hamrick. Dewitt was a lifelong member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Army and retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 30 years as a carrier. He was a devoted husband and a loving father and enjoyed spending time with his family. Dewitt also enjoyed trading and collecting antiques. In addition to his parents, Dewitt is preceded in death by his wife Betty Padgett Hamrick; two brothers, Wiley Hamrick and Marion Hamrick; a nephew, Hugh Hamrick; and his father- in- law and mother-in-law, Fred and Trulena Padgett.
Dewitt is survived by two sons, Danny Hamrick and Bryan Hamrick and wife Lori all of Shelby; his beloved granddaughter, Stephanie Hamrick of Shelby; a niece and three nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm.
