Not sure what to say?

Remembering a special lady who brought joy to so many people. May God bestow rest on her soul and grant her the eternal peace she surely deserves.

I will always remember her smile and kindness. My thoughts and prayers go out to Ed and his family.

My aunt was just the best. She was many things to many people , for me-she's the person that I knew I would get honesty and fun rolled into one. At a very young age, all I have is fun memories of giggling while having our got fudge sundaes. If you know my aunt and her driving and following directions, you know why there was laughing. Our ice cream sundaes as I grew older turned into an indulgentment of an armaretto sour, those of you that were at Karen's know how that ended. As I got older ,...

To Ed and family passing of Delores sadness us. Ken remembers her smile. Such a pleasant lady.

Dolores was a very special and loved neighbor and was one of the first women to join our Grand Dominion Bible study in 2014. She loved listening and sharing in the different studies and learning about the Bible. Her heart’s desire was to know and see Jesus. Her humility and faith were a witness to God’s grace. She told me how important it was that she gave each of her grandchildren and engage grandchildren the Bible.

I got to know Dolores first when she brought communion to my Mom at her home, and then thru the grief support group, ministry of care and ladies bible study at Grand Dominion. Her devotion to the Lord was like no other. She set a beautiful example of faith for me to follow. She will be truly missed and also remembered

Dolores was a humble, loving, and compassionate woman. It was a blessing to know her. We will keep Ed and the entire family in our prayers as they go through this difficult time.

I am saddened to hear of Dolores’ passing. She was such a classy lady, as is her husband Ed. Her mother, my Aunt was also an amazing lady. Dolores and her family are in my prayers. This can be a difficult time for family and friends. I pray that God might strengthen and comfort Dolores’s friends and family and that they find rest and peace.

Dolores had a kind heart. She was sincere and let her light shine while she was serving others. She was an asset to our Church and our community. We will miss her. I am glad she is now with her first love......I was told she loved Jesus since kindergarten.

Dolores's Obituary

Dolores Adele Leuthner (formerly Kirschten), 84, of Mundelein, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024.  She was born on September 20, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Wilfrid and Catherine (Mueller) Kirschten.  She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Leuthner; children Karen (Mike) Nolan, Steve (Louise) Leuthner, Pat (Carl) Peterson, Joan (Scott) Mylin; and two brothers Jim (Sue) Kirschten, Bill (Fran) Kirschten.  She was also a special aunt and dear friend to many.

Dolores and husband, Ed, were married for 64 years and have been active parishioners at St. Mary of the Annunciation for over 30 years.  Dolores received the St. Mary of the Annunciation’s Woman of the Year Award in 2017 presented by the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women recognizing her outstanding service. She served on the liturgy team, was the head of the Eucharistic ministers, and visited the homebound and those in hospitals as a minister of care. In addition, she served as a bereavement minister, grief support facilitator and was on numerous committees including Ladies Tea, Pork and Corn Roast, Ladies Retreat, Bible Study, FOCUS with Ed, and the Capital Campaign to build the new church and ministry center.  Dolores also worked as an executive secretary for GTE Directories for 18 years.

Dolores was especially devoted to her 17 grandchildren who have fond memories of sleepovers and holiday celebrations at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. She always showed such loving support to her grandchildren from toddler years, school and extracurricular activities, concerts and dance performances, to high school and college graduations.  She was present for Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations and even weddings.  She has also been exceedingly blessed with 15 great grandchildren who brought her such great joy.

Dolores was always putting the needs of others before her own. Many friends expressed that if someone needed help, Dolores would be there offering her assistance.  She loved volunteering in her children’s lives as a Room Mother, Brownie Leader including Cookie Chair, member of PTA, and Fun Fair Chairman.  At her previous church, St. Zachary’s in Des Plaines, she taught in the Confirmation Religious Education Program and was a facilitator for Baptisms and RCIA.  Her deep faith in God was an inspiration to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many others she influenced. She loved daily and Sunday Mass and praying her rosary daily. She certainly demonstrated the life of a Christian in all she did. Dolores lived for her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
