Dominic's Obituary

FEWER, Dominic J. -

Dominic John Fewer "DJ" passed away peacefully after a gallant battle with ALS on July 25th, 2024 with his family and friends lovingly by his side. DJ was only 50 years of age.

Born on April 13th, 1974 to Dorothy Wade-Rodway and Dominic Fewer, DJ lived his  young life in Avondale and Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, along with his two siblings and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends nearby. He graduated from Roncalli Central High School in 1992 and completed ironworker and boilermaker programs thereafter. His work sometimes took him outside of the province.

DJ became actively involved in hockey at a very early age and won many awards and trophies for achievements.  He remained active in hockey, swimming and diving throughout his life. DJ had a love for music, drama TV series and television game shows.   He was also passionate about experiencing God's creation outdoors, spending much of his life hiking, kayaking, diving at the falls in Avondale, and lately travelling to Atami, El Salvador, with family and friends.

DJ's love for sports, the outdoors and music were only surpassed by the love he had for his family. DJ will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them - and if you knew him, you knew it. The relationship he had with his mother was like no other. They shared an unbreakable bond. When his time came, he carried himself with faith, strength and full of love for his family. DJ will be missed dearly.

DJ was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and unique sense of humor. He was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and compassionate. He was generous, hardworking and brave, and he always gave young children special attention. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences as iron worker and boiler maker.

DJ is survived by his mother Dorothy Wade-Rodway and step-father Darrell, and by his father Dominic Fewer and step-mother Corine; his son Michael Brandon Fewer and their beloved dog Storm, his daughter Makenzie Yetman and granddaughter Stevie.

DJ is also loved and remembered by his brother Wade Rodway and fiancé Oxana, and by his sister Dottie-Jean Fewer and niece Jazmin, sister Dominique Wadden and family, uncle  Terry ( Ann), aunt Elaine ( Rick), Uncle Bern (Gloria),Uncle Jim (Mary) and  Bernette, also by numerous cousins, friends and extended family in Newfoundland, Alberta and British Columbia.

DJ was predeceased by his grandparents, Theresa and John Wade, and Dominic and Mary Fewer. Waiting for him at the Door to Heaven were his step-daughter Julie, aunt Patsy and his uncles Robert, John, Richard and Michael, Art, Aunt Mary and cousin Micheal.

The family wishes to thank Doctor Daulton and the numerous home support workers for their time and compassionate care during DJ's journey with ALS. They would also like to thank all family and friends, specially, Marie Tobin and Ramon Flores, for their ongoing support and payers.

DJ's family will be receiving friends at Flaherty's Funeral Home, Conception Harbour on Monday July 29th, from 1:00 PM - 4:00PM. DJ's  celebration of life will be held at Rumors Lounge in Avondale following the funeral home on Monday July 29th. There will be a mass scheduled at a later date, and we will notify all friends and family.
