Donald "Don"'s Obituary

Donald "Don" Farren Sr., 91, of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2011 at his home. Born on April 29, 1919 in Rainelle, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Herbert R. and Virgie Lester Farren. Don was a former resident of Petersburg, prior to moving to the Outerbanks in 1984. He was a United States Army veteran having served during World War II, a recipient of the Bronze Star with valor, the American Defense Service Medal, and the European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal. He is survived by his wife, Helen L. Farren; a son, D.R. Farren Jr. and wife, Karen; two grandchildren, Nicole and Donald R. Farren III; a sister, Mrs. Peggy Burwell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George with Chaplain Rachel Luck officiating. The family will receive family and friends at the residence of D.R. and Karen Farren after the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the DAV, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250. Arrangements by the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road.
