South Glens Falls, NY - Donald E. Woodward Jr., age 59, died on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital. He was born on January 16, 1958, to Beverly Taylor and the late Donald E. Woodward Sr.
Donald proudly served for the United States Army as a 51M10 Firefighter. A dedicated employee for the Saratoga Springs City School District, he recently retired after thirty-one years of service as a head custodian. An avid Jets and Yankees fan, Donald not only loved watching games with family and friends, but he also enjoyed being part of the action by making calls on the field as an umpire for the Adirondack Umpiring Association.
Having a great appreciation for the outdoors, Donald’s favorite activities included setting out on hikes with his furry pal, Sophie, snowshoeing, fishing, camping, or just simply hanging out around a fire with his friends. He had a passion for adventure, and took any and every opportunity to go skiing. Donald was a spirited member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, an international non-profit organization promoting peace, prosperity, and hope.
Survivors include his daughter, Dianna (Eric) Canestraro; his mother Beverly Taylor; siblings Debbie Woodward, Michael (Debbie) Cochrane, Kimberly Hart (Randy Snyder), Marlin Taylor, Tammy Woodward; his dearest companion Hillary Martin-Tucker and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30pm Friday, March 24 at the funeral home and burial with military honors will follow at 2pm at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following charities: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Spina Bifida Association.
