Donald Glenn Halverson was born April 17, 1941 in Cando, ND, the son of Glenn and Norma (Olson) Halverson of Cando.
He attended Bethel Country School and graduated from Cando High School in 1959. While in high school Don was given the opportunity to start farming and immediately jumped at the chance. This became his lifelong passion.
After graduating from high school, he continued to farm but also began working for the Towner County Road Department. He helped with building many roads in the area, as well as the Armourdale Dam. He was very proud of those accomplishments. Many interesting stories were told of the process it took.
In 1963 he met Lorna Baker through their love of horses. They fell in love and were married June 25, 1964.
They lived in Cando for a couple of years and moved to their farm in 1966 where they still live.
Along with farming Don also drove semi for TOCO making many long trips to Duluth. In his spare time, he drove school bus in the winter for Cando School.
He was an NFO member, church council member, 4H leader, rural fire department member and Township Supervisor for many years.
Don loved to tinker with anything mechanical especially his favorite Fords. He enjoyed horses, motorcycles, snowmobiles, 4-wheelers, ATV’s, boating and camping.
More than anything he loved spending as much time as possible with family and friends. When the grandchildren were around, he was ALL smiles. He always looked forward to having their annual family get-together on their anniversary weekend. This was held in the shop that meant so much to him.
If anyone ever needed help, Don was always there ready to get started. You could usually find him in his shop working on something.
Don is survived by his wife, Lorna; son, Greg Halverson of West Fargo; daughter, Kari (Bruce) Rinas of Egeland; son, Rod (Jamie) Halverson of Cando; nine grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stanley Halverson; sister-in-law, Brenda Halverson; nephew, Tyler Halverson; sister-in-law Pat Satrom and her husband Arnold Satrom; and in-laws, Clark and Elvera Baker.
