The Christian Benevolent Funeral Home-MMS extends its heartfelt condolences on the passing of Mr.Donald Ponquinette.
Donald Ponquinette, a beloved figure in Mobile, Alabama, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of service and kindness. Donald was born in Mobile, Alabama on November 26th, 1949, as the youngest of seven children to Myrtle Parker, a homemaker, and Ernest Ponquinette, a Mobile shipyard worker who was also a talented musician.
Raised heavily in the Catholic faith, Donnie began the embark on his spiritual and educational journey by attending St. Peter Clavor for grade school & Most Pure Heart of Mary for his high school education. Once graduated with his secondary education, he went on to attend the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and worked diligently to earn his doctorate degree in 1972 and went on to be a Licensed Pharmacist.
Later on, he began practicing his vocation back in his home of Mobile and worked vigilantly to successfully own and operate both Hunte Pharmacy, DP Home Health Care and Lincoln Pharmacy. As an independent pharmacist, he has touched countless lives with his compassionate care and commitment to improving the health and well-being of others in the heart of the historically black community of his hometown. This year alone marks his 50th year as a Licensed Pharmacist with the state of Alabama.
Donald was not only a pillar of the healthcare community but also an active member of the Prichard Graduate Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the prestigious Boulé Society, where he contributed his leadership and wisdom to his fellowship brothers. His involvement in these organizations reflected his deep commitment to brotherhood, scholarship, and service.
Beyond his professional and fraternal affiliations, Donald was a big advocate for community service, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. Whether through organizing health fairs at community centers like the Shriner’s Temple, or mentoring youth with Bishop State Community College, or supporting local initiatives, Donald made a lasting impact on the lives of those around him. He was a man who has even gone as far as to work in managing his own non-profit known as Me & My Health for some to help spark the personal initiate amongst the community to possess more awareness to their own personal health and wellness management.
He will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to making the world a better place. Donald Ponquinette leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, and community spirit that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He is survived and will be deeply missed by his three daughters: Crystal Ponquinette, Lindsey Harding, & Danielle Ponquinette; alongside his living siblings Norma C.
