Not sure what to say?

Donna and I talked regularly over the past 10 years. She and my mom Maxine were first cousins and best friends. Donna had the amazing Davis laugh. We compared recipes, she told me stories, and we laughed. Donna is the last of the many Davis cousins; she hardly took any meds in her nineties and had a better memory than I did. We shared pictures and info about relatives.
When I did not get a Xmas card from her this year I knew she was gone and found this page. I will truly miss her.

Donna's Obituary

Donna E. Hawks, a lifelong Sioux Falls resident, passed away on June 25, 2025, at Touchmark at All Saints, under the compassionate care of Sanford Hospice.

Funeral services will be at Heritage Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. followed by burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. Family will be present one hour before the funeral for visitation.

Donna was born on August 15, 1928, on West Bailey Street in Sioux Falls to Glen and Ella (Abraham) Davis. She spent her entire life in Sioux Falls and grew up on North Dakota Avenue. Donna graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and went on to attend Nettleton College. She later worked as a secretary for Harold Spitznagel, a noted South Dakota architect. After her children were grown, she worked at JCPenney in downtown Sioux Falls.

On January 1, 1949, Donna was united in marriage to Donald Hawks. They were married for 66 years and were active members of Hope Lutheran Church. Donna was deeply involved in church life, participating in circle, prayer chain, visitation, quilting, Meals on Wheels, lefsa-making, adult Sunday School, Women of Hope, and WELCA.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, needlework, working puzzles, playing bridge, making lefsa and krumkake for Christmas, and playing bunko. She and Don also looked forward to attending the reunions for the USS Morris (DD-417), the destroyer Don served on during World War II.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son Bruce (Dawn Wheeler), daughter Elaine (Gary) Hoover, five grandchildren—Christopher, Nicole, Rachel, Mark, and Austin—along with great- and great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents, her son Brian, and her sister Lois Bolnick.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hope Lutheran Church.
