The Beginning:
The incredible blessing known as Donnie Joe Simmons was born on October 17, 1945, to Jack and Lenora Simmons. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Galilee Baptist Church in Devers, Texas.
Donnie Joe attended Devers Elementary School and graduated from Hull Daisetta High School. After completing his education, he enlisted in the United States Army. Upon returning from his service in Vietnam, he worked for R.B. Evans Farm and Ranching in Devers.
Donnie Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lenora Simmons, as well as three brothers: Reverend Joe Raymond Lewis, Robert L. Simmons, and Edward P. Simmons.
He leaves behind cherished memories of his daughter, LaToya M. Turner (JaCarole W. Turner), six grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, two sisters, Vivian Farrington and Leatrice Johnson (Dennis Johnson Sr.), and three brothers, Curtis R. Simmons, Percy L. Simmons, and Kenneth R. Simmons. He also had a lifelong friend whom he considered a brother, Walter Patterson, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Yesterday
This is quite late and I apologize. However, I just learned of his death today, March 27, 2026. I last saw Donnie Joe a few years ago when I made an intentional stop in Devers to find old friends who had been my schoolmates when my dad taught at Woodson School in Raywood. I spent about half-hour chatting with him at his home. We didn´t do a very good job of staying in touch as we promised. I enjoyed and cherished that visit. He will always be held in high regards with me. I pray that the Comforter brings you, family and friends much in days ahead.
