DORIS JEAN JOHNSON

 Doris Jean Johnson, 71, of Carlton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Moose Lake Village Assisted Living.

She was born on July 10, 1954, to Lawrence and Florence (Larson) Schmitz in Cloquet. Doris grew up in the Carlton–Cloquet area and attended Cloquet High School. On April 27, 1976, she married the love of her life, James LeRoy Johnson, in Carlton. Together they raised their family in Carlton.

Doris worked for more than 30 years at the Interfaith Care Center until her retirement. She loved caring for her residents, and when she wasn’t working, she enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower gardens. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, James; her sister, Shirley Schmitz; and her brother, Robert Schmitz.

She will be greatly missed by her children: David Johnson of Kettle River; Christine (Tyson) Warner of Cromwell; Bobbi (Christopher) Bruce of West Fargo; and Amanda (Joshua) Mattson of Esko. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Drake (Autumn), Chandell, Talon, Mylee, Chase, Easton, and Gannon; one great-grandchild, Theo; and her siblings, Lawrence (Patsy) Schmitz of Carlton, Raymone (Patty) Schmitz of Carlton, Carol Schmitz of Cloquet, and Joyce Schmitz of Cloquet.

No services will be held at this time. The family is planning a private burial at a later date.
