Doris Strickland, age 81, of Laurel Hill, passed peacefully from this life surrounded by family and loved ones. A beloved wife, mother, sister, caregiver, and friend, Doris’s life was marked by creativity, compassion, and a deep devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.
A lifelong member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church, Doris faithfully served her church family for decades. One of her greatest joys was teaching Sunday School to the children’s group, where her gentle spirit, patience, and love for sharing God’s Word left a lasting impact on generations of young hearts.
Gifted with an artistic soul, Doris found joy and expression in painting and working with ceramics. Her creations reflected her warm personality and eye for beauty. But perhaps her most cherished role was opening her home — and her heart — to others. Known affectionately as the “neighborhood mom,” Doris’s house was the gathering place for her son Stephen’s friends — the place to laugh, share stories, and feel at home in Laurel Hill.
Doris’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family. She devoted many years as a loving caregiver to her mother and father, as well as to her mother-in-law, caring for them with unwavering devotion and grace.
A fan of classic country music, Doris especially loved listening to Reba McEntire, whose songs often played softly in the background of many cherished family memories.
Doris is survived by her loving husband, Royce Strickland; her son, Steven Strickland; and her sister, Chris Thomas. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Eric Strickland, her father Charles Robinson, and her mother, Dorothy Robinson.
Those who knew Doris will remember her kindness, her creativity, and her selfless love for those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, friendship, and unconditional love that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
Services for Doris Strickland will be announced by Evans Funeral Home.
