I had the honor to work with Mr heard when he drove for Tracy Foutch He was a great man to work with he even trained me on the job seemed like it was just yesterday I also went to post oak Baptist church were I meet him for the first time. He will be greatly missed

Funeral Services with Military Honors for Dorman Casto Herd, age 76, of Cookeville will be held on Saturday February 14, 2026, at 11:00A.M. from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Bro. Dow Allen and Bro. Tim Sharp will officiate at the service, and family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00P.M. until 8:00P.M. and on Saturday from 9:00A.M until time of service at 11:00A.M.
Dorman Casto Herd was born on June 8, 1949, in Putnam County TN to the late Woodrow and Climmie Oaks Herd. He passed away on February 11, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Dorman served his country proudly in the Air Force from 1968-1972, where he became a Para Rescue trooper and Fueler. Dorman also was Baxter Police Chief from 1978-1988. He loved hunting and spending time with his grandchildren teaching them to drive the tractor. He also enjoyed football and was a VOLS fan for life.
Faith was a big part of his life and he was a member of Boma First Church of God.
His Family includes,
His wife Ruby Diane Herd, Kids, Jeff Herd (Christy), Jason Herd (Julie) Katrina Lee and his loving dog Libby (That he treated like one of his children).
Grandchildren, Caitlin herd, Alexis Harper (Daniel) Zoie Herd, Mickey Guinn Jr. (Samantha), Jarrod Herd, Christian Guinn (Maci), Lily Herd, Maddox Herd, River Turner, Braxton Higgins and Tucker Turner
8 Great Grand Children
Siblings, Faye Herd Shanks (Billy Ray), Sharon Herd Nichols (The late Robert Nichols), Elizabeth Herd Clark (Joe Clark) Virginia Herd and the Late Darnell Herd.
Other family and friends also survive.
