Not sure what to say?

To the family of Dr Chhabra,
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your husband and father. He truly was a compassionate and caring doctor.

My ex-husband and I started seeing Dr Chhabra in 1988. I continued to see him until I moved in 2014. My ex-husband continues to go to the Portage office.

When my ex-husband and I adopted our son in 1993, Dr Chhabra was the first person to meet our son. We stopped on our way back from Valpo. He checked our son out and...

Dr. Chhabra was my doctor for about 40 years. He helped so much when I was diagnosed with cancer. He will be missed.

Dr. Chhabra helped me through some difficult times in my early adulthood. He was always my favorite doctor I ever had. Unfortunately, I had to change doctors when I moved away, but he was still caring for my parents all these years. Very sad to hear this news, and my deepest condolences to you all.

In loving memory of one of the nicest, well-rounded physicians I know. He was a fantastic role model and a great example for any man. Thanks for always bringing a smile to our faces Dr. Chhabra and caring for everyone you did. May you rest in peace.

In loving memory of a wonderful person and physician. We will love you and miss you always. May our Lord give His Peace to your family, friends and coworkers.

HE CARED. He always remembered my parents, and myself, who he cared for. This made him special. I had to say something. Condolences for his loss. the world is a little less bright now. Marsha Durbin , Rita and Joe Levenda, Johanna Lineberry and Covelli family

Obituary

Dr. Bhupindar's Obituary

Dr. Bhupindar Chhabra, 69, of Dyer, IN, left on his heavenly journey on December 9, 2023, peacefully in his home with his wife of 41 years by his side. Dr. Chhabra was born in 1954 to Somdutt and Savitri Chhabra in Lucknow, India. Dr. Chhabra excelled academically and earned his medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, India in 1978. In 1982 he married Alka Chhabra (nee Bhatia) in Staten Island, NY, with whom he shares three children and four grandchildren.

After completing his residency at Methodist Hospital in Gary, IN, Dr. Chhabra started and led a large, successful family medicine practice primarily based in Portage, IN where he was beloved by his patients and staff alike. When not caring for the many patients he served over his distinguished 40 year career, he could be found playing with his four grandchildren, enjoying a round of golf with friends, and cheering on the Chicago Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks, and White Sox. He also had an affinity for soccer, particularly delighting in World Cup and Champions League matches.  He poured an excellent glass of red wine and, when traveling the world, he never failed to find an Indian restaurant to enjoy the cuisine of his home country. He was the quintessential family man, who passed on his legacy of honest hard work, compassion, generosity, patience, and gentle mannerisms to his children and grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife, Alka Chhabra (nee Bhatia); his two sons, Dr. Pankaj Chhabra and Dr. Neeraj Chhabra, and their wives Allison Massey and Dr. Michele O'Shea, respectively; his daughter, Dr. Nisha Chhabra and her husband Dr. Mitesh Kabadi; his four preciousgrandchildren, Ella Chhabra, Alina Chhabra Kabadi, Kiran Chhabra, and Avani Chhabra Kabadi; as well as sisters Dr. Sarita Makhija, Dr. Poonam Bablani, and Dr. Chitra Kohli; brother Mohinder Chabbra; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dr. Chhabra is preceded in death by his mother Savitri Chhabra and his father Somdutt Chhabra.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave. Schererville, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be considered to Sankara Eye Foundation in Dr. Chhabra’s memory (https://www.giftofvision.org).
