Dr. George's Obituary

George Charles Galitis passed away on February 8, 2023, at 92, in his home state of Massachusetts.

In his youth, George attended Northeastern University for his undergrad and proceeded to Tufts University, where he studied dentistry. He was the first in his family to go to college and part of the first generation of Greeks born and raised in Somerville.  Shortly after graduating from dental school, George proudly served his country as an Air Force dentist and Captain traveling to Japan and serving in the Air Force Reserve for many years. Upon returning from serving our country, George tended to the Somerville community for over 50 years at his own dental practice. He was incredibly proud of his service and business and prided himself on his work ethic and clinic.

He loved reading books and studying the meaning of life. He enjoyed dancing and exercising. His family always meant the most to him, and he showed his love through his guidance.

George was predeceased by his mother (Irene), father (Charles), and sister (Venetia). He is survived by his loving daughter, Renee Galitis of Dallas, Texas, two granddaughters, Stephanie Wiens of Somerville, Massachusetts, and Lindsay Wiens of Irvine, California, and nephew Peter Brekalis of Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

Services honoring George’s life will be held at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 29 Central Street, Somerville beginning with visitation at 10:30AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to Trustees of Tufts College, Tufts Dental Fund P.O. Box 3306 Boston, Massachusetts 02241.
